Intent
At Little Weighton Rowley, our geography curriculum enables children to embrace their local community and explore the diversity of the world beyond our school. We want our children to value our rural location and take responsibility for the environment. Our curriculum inspires curiosity about the natural and human world and the necessity to nurture it.
By using the concepts of place (geographical knowledge of places), space (geographical understanding of human and physical features) and scale (geographical skills and enquiry), our geography curriculum enables children to:
- Be curious and fascinated about the world and its people
- Be equipped with an understanding of diverse places, people, resources and environments around them
- Build on prior learning about physical and human processes and the formation and use of landscapes and environments
- Develop an understanding that the Earth’s features are interconnected and change over time
- Explore their own environment and challenge pupils to make connections between their local surroundings and that of contrasting settlements
- Use the local area and community to develop geographical skills and knowledge
