Our Year - 2022 to 2023
Sports Day May 2023
With ever changing weather, we kept our fingers crossed for a dry evening for our sports day. It turned out well and with our new format of both field and track events, the children were kept very busy. There was lots of activity, personal bests, teamwork, stickers and smiles. The children demonstrated our sports games values in abundance and had lots of fun along the way. Visit our sports page to see some more photos from the evening. Thank you to Friends of School for the refreshments and all our lovely volunteers.
Claire West Artist Workshop-May 2023
Claire West is a local artist, who specialises in creating art using printing and acrylic paints. Her vibrant nature focused art was an inspiration for the painting and printing workshop she facilitated for us. The children learnt how to work with acrylic paints and use them to print with. We practised the painting and printing techniques before creating a final canvas piece of art.
Summer Dig it Day- May 2023
Finally, the rain stopped the rain came out and we were able to go outside and dig! We weeded and cleared the vegetable beds, before plating potatoes, sweet corn, raspberries and strawberries. In addition we had a good sort and tidy of our play and gardening equipment. We also had made a colourful array of insects and bugs to go onto the railings at the front of school.
The King’s Coronation - May 2023
Today we came together to celebrate the King’s Coronation. We made our own crowns, learnt the national anthem, danced to music and shared a coronation picnic lunch. Everyone looked great in their red, white and blue.
Making Wind Turbines with Cargill - April 2023
Dr Stephenson and her colleagues from Cargill came and led some sessions with Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 about sustainable energy. The children listened to the presentation and took part in some activities before making their own working wind turbines. Many thanks to Dr Stephenson and her team for giving up their time to spend the day with us.
The Magical Theatre Company Circus Workshop - March 2023
The children have had a fantastic morning with Steve and Will from the Magical Theatre Company taking part in a circus skills workshop. The children learned to juggle, ride unicycles, walk a tight rope, spin plates, dance with ribbons and then performed all their skills to each other! Miss Varley is a bit worried that after Easter some of the children will have left Little Weighton and enrolled at circus school!

Together they led the whole school in an act of reflective worship to remember those who died in wars and those who still serve us today. Class 2 made poppies for everyone and helped Class 1 to put them on at the start of the service. Class 3 prepared and read a thoughtful reflective poem.

Harvest time this year, was a time of sharing and celebrating in song, poems and prayers. We also shared the flowers kindly donated by parents with the elderly in the village and in addition food for the Vineyard Church foodbank in Hull.
Autumn Dig it Day - September 2022
Our first whole school working together as a team this year, has been to harvest our garden produce and to get the school garden ready for the winter months. We had a bumper crop of beans and tomatoes and this year our pumpkins and potatoes grew well. Class 3, will be using the pumpkins to make pumpkin soup for the whole school later in the half term.
Queen Elizabeth II - September 2022
We remembered the Queen in our assembly, to think about her life and the impact she has had on the lives of so many. We celebrated her dedication and service to our country. We wrote our thoughts and prayers and placed them on the school gates in the lead up to her funeral.
